In 1975 (when this movie was released) there were only three fatal shark attacks in the USA and none of them were by a Great White shark. But this movie scared the shit out of the entire globe!

Also, the scene when they are examining Ben Gardner’s beat-up fishing boat, and Hooper pulls a shark tooth the size of a shot glass out of the hole in the hull -- just as Ben Gardner’s mutilated head suddenly appears -- is one of the greatest jump-scares of all time!

There is a good example of foreshadowing in this movie that everyone seems to miss: when Chief Brody is looking through books about sharks, researching the subject, while thumbing through the books, he comes across a photo of a giant shark with a compressed air tank from a diver in its mouth. Of course, this comes full circle at the end of the movie when Brody destroys the shark by shooting the compressed air tank in its jaws.

Remarkably, Quint’s speech about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis is a historical fact. It really happened! His vivid description of the tragedy that resulted is one of the most epic monologues in cinematic history, and is the key to his character and his obsession with killing sharks. He smashed the radio not only because he wanted to secure the bounty and reward for killing the Great White, which is strictly a secondary consideration for him, but rather because he wanted revenge - or perhaps personal redemption - for his horrific experience, which he can only achieve by killing the man-eating shark himself.

I never got the treading water part of swimming. I have always had .5% body fat and I will sink like a rock if I do not swim. Yes that means that I am skinny, but have great muscle tone. Unfortunately human muscle is a little bit heavier than water.

Humans are distasteful to most sharks -including the Great White, but they hunt by opportunity and will taste anything that moves. Smaller sharks usually leave us alone. This does not include the Bull shark that can live in salt water and fresh water rivers. They will eat people if they cant find anything else to eat.

The stunt actress almost died in the opening swim/attack scene! They had scuba divers with cameras, but the line that drug her under water almost made her drown!

At 13 minutes, when you said people are gonna explain things to you, all you need to know is things like this happened. There is no place for humanity in war. It'll get you killed. And even though your enemy is just a normal person like you, you either kill him, or he kills you. It doesn't matter how or why

The sequel is good do . Jaws 2 is entertaining as well. I recommend it.

Following the movies release people had a mix of fear and curriosity about large sharks / Great Whites. My dad owned a fishing boat out of Oceanside Ca. at the time soI made some extra money taking people out to look for a Great White . I used to chum a bit once I got past the 3 mile limit. Most times small sharks would show up but a few times I ran into one magnificent 17 foot long female great White Off of San Clemente island. (which I did not chum around). And while not as big as the shark in the movie impressed my clients/charter.

the speed of a M4 Sherman tank was about 38 to 46km/h as far as i know. The German tiger was a lot slower but made it up by being heavely armored and armed

Chris Fatt? Arnold? Have another drink. :P Mentioning the Predator's nails reminded me of a favorite scene. Near the end the Predator accesses it's wrist interface using it's nails like a stylus - VERY proficiently. I wonder how many times they shot that scene because of the 'stunt hand' missing those tiny 'buttons'?

You all need to check out the Amityville horror movie the original from the 70s i would love to see you react to this one oh in its basic on a true story.

A suggestion for a musical is all I can give (fixed income). So, for a musical that most people overlook, give "Paint Your Wagon" a gander. Where else are you going to find Hollywood legends Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood with singing parts in a musical comedy/farce?

@34:34 Blockbusters (the term was used for the first time in regards to movies with Jaws bc ppl were lining up around the block to see it) that came out around that time period of the 70’s would include Star Wars a couple years later and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (also by Spielberg), and perhaps Apocalypse Now. 😎

I usually don't watch reactions to movies I haven't seen, and this one I'd probably never watch either, but now I had some time to waste, and following Toy through this journey was quite an experience!! Thanks for uploading! Greetings from Sweden

You can walk on anti-tank mines. They're either activated with magnets or very heavy pressure. These aren't like video game mines they're dealing with in that scene
